Beth Lechner has served as the
 Executive Director/CEO of
 Habitat for Humanity East
Central Ohio for over a decade,
 overseeing an organization that
has built nearly 500 homes, with
over 2,000 individuals in need of
 decent affordable housing.

 With Beth leading development
and operations, Habitat for Humanity East Central
Ohio has become a leader among U.S. Habitat for
Humanity ministries, having also been named the
#1 affiliate in Ohio for best practices. In 2015, the
organization received the Clarence E. Jordan
Award for Excellence in Innovation from Habitat   for Humanity International for its Homeowner
 Maintenance Education Program.

In addition to her oversight of the Habitat
ministry, Beth facilitated the opening and
operation of two Habitat for Humanity ReStore
locations in Canton, non-profit thrift stores that
 support Habitat’s homebuilding and renovating
efforts. Proceeds from these two stores have built
more than thirteen homes since 2005.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat

Since 1988, Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio has helped nearly 500
families achieve the dream of homeownership. Over 2,200 individuals live in the
homes built and renovated by Habitat for Humanity volunteers and future
homeowners in east central Ohio. Approximately 1,800 of these individuals are
 children.

Since Habitat for Humanity ReStore opened in Canton in 2005, thousands and
thousands of tons of reusable materials have been diverted from landfills through
merchandise sales and recycling. At ReStore, every donation and purchase helps
build and renovate homes with hard-working east central Ohio families and
 children.

Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio is a leader among U.S. Habitat for
Humanity ministries.  It has been named the #1 affiliate in Ohio, and since 1995,
it has remained in the top thirty Habitat for Humanity ministries in the United
States. Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio takes these honors seriously and
works tirelessly to honor its mission of building homes, communities, and hope.

Canton Chapter IMA member participates in annual
 Canton Repository Celebrity Spelling Bee

He didn’t win the contest, but Canton Chapter IMA member, Emil Alecusan, went up against 15 other contestants in the annual Canton Repository
Celebrity Spelling Bee on September 6th.

Held at the Canton Palace Theatre, the event is a fundraiser that benefits the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.  According to a Canton Repository newspaper
article, the contestants raised $12,450 this year for the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.

The event started with common and easy-to-spell words for the contestants. However, Emil went out when he misspelled the second
word he was offered, “havarti,” which is a type of cheese.  “I should have thought a little more,” said Alecusan, who is chief financial
officer for Brewster Cheese. “I should have taken a couple more seconds to think about it.”  But it was not a bad night for Alecusan as
he raised the most money of all the 16 spelling bee contestants.

The Canton Repository went on to say that the one who might have been the star of the event was the “expert,” Snehal Choudhury, a
14-year-old Jackson High School freshman. Choudhury was summoned to center stage frequently to spell some of the more difficult
words as contestants called for her help. Choudhury represented Stark County in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Maryland earlier
 this year.

 CONGRATULATIONS, EMIL!!
