Chapter History

On January 24, 1961, nine members from the Akron Chapter met for the first organizational meeting of the Canton Chapter. Glen Woodson, a Canton resident, was chosen chairman of the organizing committee. The organization was chartered at the National Board of Directors meeting on May 6, 1961. The official date of the Charter was June 1, 1961, at which time there were 168 charter members.

By 1967, membership had grown to 292 with representation extending well south of Canton. The interests and efforts to form a new chapter culminated in the issuance of a charter to the Ohio Mid-Eastern area on May 1, 1968. The Ohio Mid-Eastern Chapter voted to reunite with the Canton Chapter effective June 1, 2014.
