Economic Impact of Young Professionals
Presented by Eric Smer, Y Stark

ERIC R. SMER joined the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2012. As director of ystark!, he is tasked with leading the organization in its mission of attracting, retaining and most importantly, engaging Stark County young professionals. This includes managing networking and social events, professional development efforts, service and volunteer opportunities, along with expanding ystark!ís role in entrepreneurial engagement and economic development.

A Stark County native, Smer was raised in Jackson Township and received a dual-major bachelorís degree in business administration in marketing and business management from Kent State University, graduating with distinction and honors. Prior to joining the Chamber, Smer was executive director of Stark County Hunger Task Force, the leading countywide anti-hunger non-profit in the region.

Smerís community involvement is extensive but his proudest accomplishments are: Leadership Stark County Spotlight graduate; Twenty under 40! recipient; vice president of the Kent State University Alumni Association Stark Chapter; founding board member of Friends of Plain Township Parks; chairman of the North Canton Jaycee Fair.

Smerís personal mission is to work to make a great Stark County region even greater with the help of the ystark! members. Follow the young professional movement on Facebook and Twitter to be in the know of all things YP!

Stark County Update
Presented by Richard Regula, County Commissioner

Elected to the Stark County Commissioner Board for a second time in 2012, Richard Regula has a history of service work and involvement in local government.

A Stark County native, Richard is the past-president of the Massillon Rotary and a member of the Ohio and Erie Canal Corridor Committee. He has served on the Navarre Village Council and three terms as Bethlehem Township trustee. He has served on the board of directors for the Stark County Farm Bureau.

Richard is the chairman of the Stark, Tuscarawas, Wayne Joint Solid Waste Management District board and chairman of the Joint Board of Commissioners Multi-County Juvenile Attention System. He is a current board member of the Western Stark YMCA and the Massillon Chamber of Commerce. Richard also is a member of the Stark County Township Association and he served on the Clean Ohio Council, where he was appointed by the Governor.

A graduate of Fairless High School, Richard received his bachelor's degree from Ohio University. He owns R. Straus LLC, a trucking company where he began his career.

Richard is a member of St. Michael's Parish. He resides in Bethlehem Township with his wife, Sherry. They have two sons, Thomas and Garrett.
