Get Involved!

Greetings, IMA Members! We are working on creating the Canton IMA Board for next year (June 2017-May 2018) and would like to give you the opportunity to nominate or be nominated for a spot on the board. Many of the positions require small time commitments and provide a great way to stay connected with other leading accountants in our area and become a leader in the Northeast Ohio business community. Click here for a list of board positions. This will give you an idea of the structure of the board and description of each director’s responsibilities. Please let me know within the next week if you have any questions, interests, or co-workers who should get involved!

I am looking forward to working with you!

Strategic Finance
Top 2017 Risks

by Elizabeth Kennedy

Brexit. Turmoil in the Middle East and the resulting surge in immigration. Changes in national political leadership. Depressed oil prices. Monetary policies and concerns about inflation and inflated asset prices in China. Global terrorism. Escalating healthcare costs. Rapidly developing innovations from the digital technology revolution. Expanding regulation and oversight. A strong U.S. dollar.

These and a host of other significant risk drivers are all contributing to the risk dialogue in boardrooms and executive suites.

Global consulting firm Protiviti and North Carolina State University Poole College of Management asked 735 board members and executives to rate the likely impact that various risk issues will have on their organizations in 2017 (using a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 represents an “extensive impact”). The top five areas of concern are:

1. Economic conditions (6.61)

2. Regulatory changes and regulatory scrutiny (6.51)

3. Cyberthreats (5.91)

4. Rapid speed of disruptive innovations and new technologies (5.88)

5. Privacy/identity management and information security (5.87)

This report from Protiviti and North Carolina State University’s ERM Initiative contains results from their fifth annual risk survey of directors and executives to obtain their views on the extent to which a broad collection of risks are likely to affect their organizations over the next year.
