State and Local Tax Update
Presented by Theresa B. Mullen, MT

Theresa Mullen joined Bruner Cox LLP in 2004. She works with clients acting as a liaison between clients and state representatives and reviewing clients’ eligibility for state tax incentives to ensure that they are capitalizing on all possible state tax minimization strategies. She is a member of the Firm’s Manufacturing and Wholesale-Distribution Services Group along with the Construction and Real Estate Services Group.

Theresa joined the Firm with 10 years of tax and accounting experience. Before joining Bruner Cox LLP, she worked for a “Big Four” firm, specializing in providing tax compliance, and state and local consulting services to a large international Fortune 500 company.

She is a frequent speaker on State and Local Tax issues. Theresa was invited to testify for the Ohio House of Representatives to the Committee on Ohio’s Tax Structure. She was also invited to be a member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants Young CPA Task Force Committee.

Theresa earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in taxation from The University of Akron.

She is a member of the Women’s Board of Aultman Hospital, serves on the Canton Regional Chamber Tax and Economic Development Committee, the State and Local Tax Committee, the Ohio Prosperity Project, the Brain Gain Focus Group and is a member of the Ohio Manufacturing Association (OMA) Taxation Committee.

Theresa is a member of the Jackson Belden Chamber Legislative Committee, the Akron Chamber of Commerce Government Committee and the Massillon Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee. She is past president of the St. Michael’s School Advisory Board, a current member of the St. Michael’s Church Finance Committee and a Junior Achievement volunteer.

Federal Tax Update
Presented by Ben Seeley, CPA, JD, MT

Ben Seeley joined Bruner Cox LLP in 2008 bringing with him six years of legal, tax, and accounting experience. Prior to joining Bruner Cox LLP, Ben worked for a Cleveland area law firm that focused on tax and wealth management for businesses and high net-worth individuals.

Ben also spent four years working with the tax practice of EY, where he provided consulting and compliance services for publicly traded and privately owned businesses. In addition to these roles, he has also served as a court-appointed receiver in foreclosure and liquidation actions. Before attending law school, Ben worked as a staff and cost accountant for a mid-sized manufacturing firm in the Akron area.

As a graduate of The University of Akron, Ben earned his Bachelor of Science degree in accountancy along with his Masters of Taxation and Juris Doctorate degrees. Ben has been a Certified Public Accountant since 2000.

Ben has taught tax classes for The University of Akron School of Accountancy and teaches CPA review courses through Becker Professional Education. He is a member of The Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, The Akron Bar Association, The Akron Chapter of The Charles F. Scanlon and Judge Samuel H. Bell Inn of Court and The Canton Estate Planning Forum. Ben also serves as Treasurer on the board of trustees for the Canton Symphony Orchestra.
