ODOT and a Life of Significance
Presented by Matt Miller

Matt Miller served two terms as an Ashland County Commissioner and is a former president of the Northeast Ohio County Commissioners Association. Following his second term as a County Commissioner, Matt went to work for the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Ashland, OH, where he served as the Business & Development Administrator. Three years later In 2011, Matt was named the Deputy Director of Business & Human Resources for the Ohio Department of Transportation - District Three.

Matt has served on numerous boards and commissions, including the Community Improvement Corporation of Ashland, the Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center Education Advisory Committee, Ashland County Developmental Disabilities Board and Appleseed Community Mental Health Center. He currently serves as the president of the Ashland Pregnancy Care Center and Hospice of North Central Ohio. Matt also served as the Ashland County United Way Campaign chairman in 2002, and he is a former chairman of the Ashland County Council of Social Agencies and a past president of the Ashland County Family & Children First Council. He was also a member of the Samaritan Hospital Foundation Capital Campaign Committee. Matt is a graduate of Ashland University where he was both a Presidential Scholar and an Ashbrook Scholar at the John M. Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs. He is a member of the Church of the Savior in Wooster, OH.

Matt and his wife Melanie reside in Ashland, OH.

Communicating Across the Generations – Managing a Changing Workplace
Presented by Debbie Curtis
 

Debbie Curtis is a transplant from the Pacific Northwest. She has lived in the Cleveland Ohio area for 19 years and worked in the accounting field for over 30 years. She earned her Master’s in the Science of Management from Indiana Wesleyan University. Debbie has worked for the last eight years as the Director of Accounting for The Center for Health Affairs, a hospital trade association serving Northeast Ohio.

Debbie has been a member of Toastmaster’s International for eight years. Toastmasters is an organization with a self-paced Communication and Leadership development program. She earned her Distinguished Toastmaster designation and recently serviced as District Governor for District 10. Both of these accomplishments have given Debbie a greater understanding about Communication and Leadership.

The speech she will be presenting is “Communicating Across the Generations – Managing a Changing Workplace”. The workplace has become more diversified in many ways. One of those ways is the different communication styles of all the people that work together. The differences will increase as rapidly as technology changes. The hope is that this speech will provide you a better understand of the differences and how to bridge those gaps in communication.
